Steve Harwell Highlights

Smash Mouth, a US rock band best known for its smash songs “All Star” and “Walkin’ on the Sun,” lost founding member and former leader Steve Harwell on Monday at the age of 56, according to his agent.

According to Smash Mouth manager Robert Hayes, Harwell passed away at his home in Boise, Idaho, “surrounded by family and friends,” after leaving the band in 2021 due to health issues. Harwell had recently been receiving hospice care.

According to Hayes, liver failure was the death’s cause. Smash Mouth was started in 1994 by singer Harwell, drummer Kevin Coleman, guitarist Greg Camp, and bassist Paul De Lisle in California. The group is still going strong, and punk, rock, ska, and pop are all mixed together in their sound.

With the release of the album “Fush Yu Mang” and the number-one single “Walkin’ on the Sun,” Smash Mouth gained international notoriety. In 2019, “‘Walkin’ on the Sun’ changed music,” claims Harwell. The way individuals listen to music has changed as a result.

“It was so different, so unusual, and so special,” he remarked. It only had the tone we produced, we said. You can’t; just ask everybody who has tried to replicate us. You simply cannot.

Two years later, the Grammy-nominated song “All Star” from the album “Astro Lounge,” about a lovable green ogre voiced by Mike Myers, was released. It is on the soundtrack of the first “Shrek” film. As evidence of how well-liked “All Star” is, more than 25 cover versions have been made throughout the years, and about a billion streams of it have been made on Spotify.

Hayes paid homage to Harwell in a statement, stating that “Steve’s iconic voice is one of the most recognizable voices from his generation.” According to Hayes, Smash Mouth sold 10 million records worldwide with Harwell as the lead singer.

Since the 2010s, Harwell has had a number of health scares while performing or rehearsing, and when he quit the band, he blamed cardiac problems. Steve led a life that was always fully engaged. Before going out, it was shining brightly throughout the cosmos, according to Hayes.
